HC orders notice on DMK plea against govt publicity

The Madras High Court today ordered notice to Tamil Nadu government on a petition by DMK seeking to prohibit display of publicity materials allegedly in favour of ruling AIADMK and its supremo and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in public places.
Justice M M Sundresh ordered notice to the government returnable in two weeks when the petition by DMK Headquarters Secretary Durai Murugan came up for hearing.
The petitioner charged Jayalalithaa with using the state administrative machinery and the exchequer as her personal election campaign agents.
Senior counsel P Wilson, appearing for the petitioner, alleged that government offices were being turned into AIADMK campaign campuses.
Assembly elections are due in Tamil Nadu early next year.
