A vigilance officer found paddy bags meant for the public distribution system adulterated at an abandoned brick kiln at Angadimanaglam near here.
Earlier Sivaganga District Revenue officer Elango said they effected the seizure in Angadimangalam village. The the case was subsequently transferred to Madurai district.
Later Madurai District Civil Supplies officer G Ganeshan said they seized 550 bags of paddy which were found adulterated with clay soil. Another 113 bags of paddy, which were lying unpacked and adulterated, were also seized.
James and Krishnamurthy, a godown owner, approached the High Court for anticipatory bail, saying they had no role in the adulteration.
Justice K.Kalyanaraman of the Madurai Bench reserved his orders on the petitions.
