HC seeks Centre's reply on PIL on three language formula issue

The Delhi High Court today sought the stand of the Centre, the AAP government and the CBSE on a PIL seeking strict implementation of the three language formula in effect since 1968 in government-run schools in the national capital.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued notice to the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the Delhi government and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and sought their reply on the plea before the next date of hearing on September 14.
The petition by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has said that the Delhi School Education Rules provide that the three language formula, as approved by the central government, shall be followed by the schools here.

It also said that according to the new study scheme issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE) for schools in the national capital, languages like Punjabi, Urdu and Sanskrit have been pitched against Hindi.
It said that a student opting for Hindi will not be able to choose Punjabi, Urdu and Sanskrit.
The DGSMC has sought quashing of the revised education scheme saying that "the fundamental and legal rights of the students belonging to linguistic minority groups in getting instructions and education in their own mother tongue/state language have been violated".
The PIL has also demanded recruitment of 1379 teachers for Urdu and Punjabi as the creation of the posts had been approved by the lieutenant governor in July last year.
