Former Army Chief Gen V K Singh, who spoke on the occasion, said that the malaise of corruption has been plaguing the country since the late Jaiprakash Narayan's days. Observing that inequalities have grown in the society as witnessed by the growth of Naxalism in the country, he said such inequalities must be eradicated. Citing the Army's example which always stood above considerations of religion, caste or creed, he said similar should be the case in society too. He also asked the youth to take a vow to work unitedly and sincerely for rooting out various ills from the society.
