Congress leaders owing allegiance to former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and those to party's state chief Ashok Tanwar had heated exchanges in the presence of a senior leader Madhusudan Mistry.
Mistry was here in connection with the upcoming state organisational elections and take feedbacks from the 23 district election officers (DEOs).
MLAs loyal to Hooda and some other party leaders had also to attend the meeting at the party's headquarters.
Hooda's supporters have alleged irregularities in the organisational election process, including "disappearance of membership forms of certain leaders and bogus membership".
Congress MLAs, loyal to the former chief minister, including Karan Singh Dalal, Kuldeep Sharma, Lalit Nagar, Udai Bhan and Shakuntala Khatak, brought to the notice of Mistry a large number of complaints alleging bogus membership.
However, Tanwar and his supporters have trashed the allegations as "baseless" and "without substance".
Hooda was not present at the meeting, which was attended by Tanwar and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Kiran Chaudhry.
When contacted, a legislator loyal to Hooda, who attended the meeting, said, "When Khatak was talking to reporters on BJP chief Amit Shah's visit to Haryana, supporters of Tanwar raised their voice against the legislator."
"Then MLAs and supporters from the other group also joined in and there was a heated exchange," he said.
He also alleged that the faction led by Tanwar was not responding to the questions raised by them, including "disappearance of membership forms of certain leaders and bogus membership."
"We brought all these things to the notice of Mistry," he said.
However, Tanwar rubbished the allegations, saying complete transparency had been observed in the organisational election process and the membership drive is computerised.
On "bogus membership", Tanwar said, "these are baseless and without any substance".
"I am a loyal Congress worker who knows his responsibility given by the party's national president and vice-president," he said.
Tanwar also said Shah is on a three-day visit to Haryana from tomorrow and it was time when all party workers and leaders must unitedly raise the alleged failures of the state and central governments.
