Heatwave relents, forecast of thunderstorm

The intense heatwave sweeping across south Bengal relented a little today, with the weather office even forecasting thunderstorms during the weekend.
The maximum temperature in the state, which was recorded in Sriniketan at 43.1 degrees Celsius, came down from 44.7 degrees, though it still is six notches above average, according to MeT department data.
The metropolis was also a degree cooler from yesterday at 38.9, though three degrees above normal.
The maximum temperature at Purulia in the western part of the state stood at 42.4 degrees Celsius, which was also down from 45-plus level recorded yesterday.
Bankura sizzled at 44.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below yesterday's 44.9 degrees, though five degrees above normal.
The MeT department has forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorm during the weekend in some parts of Gangetic West Bengal.
