Trouble began when the SI Sankaranarayanan belonging to the Chemmanjeri police station came in a car with some complainants and tried to arrest and drag advocate Beysil inside the vehicle.
Assistant Commissioner of Police of High Court Murali and the Deputy Commissioner of Police Nirmal Kumar rushed to the spot and SI was guarded by police.
The SI was taken to the High Court Registrar General Kalai Arasan's Chambers. Some 100 advocates started shouting that the SI, who tried to kidnap the advocate, should be prosecuted and demanded his arrest.
When he explained this to the SI, he tried to drag him inside the car.
High Court Judges R Sudhakar, M Sathyanarayanan, N Kirubakaran, D Hariparanthaman, R S Ramanathan, held discussions with police officials and advocates for more than six hours.
Finally it was decided to register a FIR and the SI was arrested, sources said.
