In its fourth meeting held today, the panel discussed about suggestions made in the presenations by senior officials of public sector undertakings, an official statement said.
The suggestions were given on rationalising labour, administration and functional structure of Food Corporation of India (FCI) and ways to address problems associated with packing of foodgrains in jute bags.
The panel, headed by former Union Minister Shanta Kumar, decided to visit Bihar and Mizoram to take on-the-spot review and feedback from various stakeholders.
FCI is the nodal agency for procurement and distribution of foodgrains. On August 20, the Centre had set up a high- level committee to suggest various models to restructure the FCI, which plays a key role in strengthening public distribution system (PDS).
The panel will meet tomorrow.
