The Tihar Jail administration has set up a computer training centre in the high security prison, in an attempt to support and rehabilitate the prisoners.
The computer lab was inaugurated by Delhi Prisons DG Alok Verma in the presence of DIG (Prisons) Mukesh Prasad, Jail Superintendent Rajesh Kumar and other senior officials. Home Ministry officials were also present during the function.
The training centre, started in Central Jail No. 1, has 12 computers donated by NGO Punjabi Promotion Council.
"The jail staff as well as the inmates look very excited and full of enthusiasm about the facilities being provided to them at the training centre... It will be fruitful in making their career successful and help them settle well in the outside world," DIG Prasad said.
The facility will be available to all the 2,033 inmates of the Central Jail No. 1.
Recently, an e-library was set up in the women's jail with 5-6 computers and two tablets installed for around 600 women inmates to encourage them to read electronically by giving them access to prompt e-learning.
