Himachal Pradesh Police cracks down on bootleggers; 225 nabbed

The Himachal Pradesh Police today launched a crackdown on bootleggers and arrested 225 people, including six Nepalese, in 550 cases and recovered 45,000 liters of liquor in the run up to the state assembly polls, the Director General of Police said.
DGP Somesh Goyal said that acting on the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), the police launched a statewide campaign and more than 50 kg of charas, 1 kg of opium, 1.50 lakh tablets and syrup and the recoveries are 100 per cent more than last year.
While, the elections are yet to be announced, arms license holders have been asked to deposit their arms and so far 3,500 arms have been deposited.
Special campaigns have been launched to execute the non- bailable warrants (NBW) and all 350 NBWs have been executed, he said, adding that 1,692 proclaimed offenders (PO) were on rolls and 48 POs have been arrested while majority of others are from other states and Nepal.
The state police have covered 93 interstate entry points to the state and CCTV cameras would be installed by October 11 next to keep a watch on the movement of suspicious persons and an interstate coordinationmeeting of representativesof Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir is slated for October 11, he said.
