Kerala Home Minister Thiruvanchur Radhakrishnan today refuted reports in a section of the press that state police had been tapping the telephones of leading politicians and public figures, including Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Dubbing the report as "utterly baseless", he said this could be seen only as a "third rate blackmailing" to create a wedge between him and Chandy.
"We have known each other since school days and our mutual trust is total. Reports seeking to create an impresssion to the contrary can be seen only as third rate tricks by vested interests," he told reporters here.
He also said police had not acquired any sophisticated device for tapping telephones of politicians and public figures as alleged by some CPI(M) leaders.
The Minister dared them to come out with proof instead of levelling such unfounded allegations.
