BJP today claimed to have fulfilled its cultural commitment after Delhi government declared a holiday on the occasion of Chhath puja tomorrow, and with this party hopes that it will help them garner support of Puravanchalis.
The Delhi government today issued a notification declaring a public holiday tomorrow in the city on account of Chhath Puja tomorrow.
"Announcement of holiday on Chhath Pooja is fulfilment of our cultural commitment in Delhi. It was also a part of our election manifesto for the people of Puravanchalis living in the national capital," Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay told reporters here.
There has been a tug of war between the BJP and Congress over declaration of public hoilday on Chhath for the last few years. Lakhs of Purvanchalis have been demanding a holiday on Chhath puja day.
"BJP leaders hope that the step will help them garner support of Purvanchalis, who play a vital role in deciding the fate of many Delhi Assembly seats," said a party leader.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari also thanked his party to make efforts in this regard.
Meanwhile, BJP also attacked the Aam Aadmi Party, saying it should not do "politics" over Trilokpuri violence.
The party also said that it doesn't see the untoward incidents in Trilokpuri area as communal incidents.
"Incidents in Trilokpuri can not be called communal incidents. Party is of the view that it was a small incident at personal level and a political party of Delhi tried to make it a big issue for political gain. AAP is doing politics on Trilokpuri's incidents," Upadhyay said.
BJP also praised the police commissioner B S Bassi for handling the situation in Trilokpuri violence.
"Police have taken strict action in Trilokpuri's incidents following which we praise the work of police commissioner," he added.
