Actors Antonio Banderas, Josh Gad and German director Roland Emmerich, among other Hollywood celebrities have paid homage to legendary actor Omar Sharif, who has died of a heart attack.
The "Doctor Zhivago" actor passed away yesterday aged 83 at a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, his native country.
German director Roland Emmerich, who helmed Sharif's 2008 film "10,000 BC", took to Twitter to pay his tribute to the actor, said The Hollywood Reporter.
"Very saddened by the passing of Omar Sharif. Blessed that I was able to work with such a legend. Love to the family," he wrote.
Gad tweeted, "Sad to hear about #OmarSharif. I grew up on Lawrence and Zhivago. A legacy with not one but multiple timeless classics."
"Yes, Dr Zhivago. But Nicky Arnstein, Nicky Arnstein... What a beautiful, beautiful name... Omar Sharif," tweeted Dana Delany.
"My great friend Omar Sharif has passed away. I will always miss him. He was one of the best," wrote Banderas on his Twitter page.
"Teen Wolf" star Daniel Sharman posted, "One of the greats. In the greatest. The incomparable Omar Sharif."
"#OmarSharif will be missed. I have watched this graceful, this wonderful actor since I was a child. I salute him," said veteran actor Vincent D'Onofrio.
English actor Eugene Michael Simon wrote, "RIP Omar Sharif, what extraordinary work you brought the world."
"One Tree Hill" screenwriter Adam Horowitz said, "Lawrence of Arabia. Dr Zhivago. Funny Girl. Top Secret! And MANY more. If you haven't seen, see! RIP Omar Sharif.
