Protestors, who started demonstration around 12.15 PM, this afternoon, raised slogans against the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Homeguard personnel, who were recruited by former congress government on contractual basis, wanted to gherao the residence of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, but were prvented by Delhi Police personnel.
"Last year, we met Lt Governor and got their contracts extended for another one year. As their contract has now ended, Delhi administration should immediately extend their contract. Instead of renewing their contract, government has started recuriting new persons, which is very unacceptable," DPCC chief Arvinder Singh told reporters here.
"Instead of recruiting new persons, government should extend their contract so that they can save their livelihood. Delhi government and Union Home Ministry should immediately intervene in the matter," Singh said.
DPCC chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma alleged that BJP and AAP are hand-in-glove and both parties are not interested in fighting for the rights of homeguards.
"Before Assembly elections, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal had promised homeguards that their jobs woukd be made permamnent. Despite being in power for 49 days, they could not do so. BJP is also doing nothing for them," Sharma also said.
