Honduran journalist gunned down

A Honduran journalist who was a candidate in November legislative elections was killed by a gunman in front of his home in the northern port city of La Ceiba, police said.
Victor Funez, a 49-year-old who hosted a commentary program on television, was shot dead yesterday "by an individual riding a motorcycle," a police spokesman, Commissioner Julian Hernandez, told AFP.
He was a candidate for the ruling conservative National Party in the upcoming elections.
The motive of the crime was not known, Hernandez said. Police later arrested a suspect.
A security camera in front of Funez's home caught the moment when the motorbike killer, wearing a helmet and shorts, approached the victim and shot him multiple times at close range.

The video, posted on social media and reported by Honduran news outlets, showed the killer then apparently taking something from one of Funez's pockets.
Human rights organizations said Funez was the 70th journalist killed in Honduras since 2003.
The country, which suffers a very high homicide rate, is considered among the most dangerous in the world for journalists.
