The ambulances, flagged off today from police ground here for Kangra, Chamba and Una districts, would be operated in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode with Emergency Management and Research Institute, Hyderabad.
Under the scheme, 125 ambulances are being made operational throughout the state and in the first phase, 45 of them were launched by the Chief Minister from Shimla for Solan, Sirmaur, Shimla and Kinnaur districts in mid-November.
These vehicles would be deployed at delivery points in the state depending upon the expected case load and the service would be extended free of cost after discharge from the hospital to all pregnant women, women after delivery and the children of less than one year from hospital, the Chief Minister said on the occasion.
The services would be available through 102 toll free number.
