HP govt considering opening of new cancer hospital

The state government is considering establishment of a new cancer hospital here, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said.
The government is considering opening a cancer hospital in the suburbs of Shimla town where enough space is available for establishment of the hospital with facility of parks for patients, Singh said, speaking at the inauguration of a free canteen service started by Almighty Blessings, an NGO in cancer hospital at Indira Gandhi Medical College here today.
He said the cancer hospital at IGMC initially started as a small unit but has expanded fast and now there is no space for further expansion.
Singh said about 165 bighas of land have been identified on the outskirts of the town for the second campus of IGMC and Kamla Nehru hospital will have a separate mother-child hospital.
A new mammography machine would be installed in the hospital for early detection of cancer, Singh said, adding that with new innovations and technical expertise, fatal diseases like cancer can be overpowered and cured.
The government is also keen to strengthen health infrastructure in the state and will ensure postings of doctors in hospitals located in remote areas.
He said more free food services would be started in other hospitals of the state in a phased manner with the cooperation of people and he appealed to them to contribute some part of their earnings for the noble cause. The participation of people in such endeavours would be great service to ailing people, he added.
"We have announced opening of 'gausadans' and dog kennels all over the state to provide food, fodder and shelter to the stray cattle," he said.
