Haryana State Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice (retd) S K Mittal today said a bench of the commission catering to the southern part of the state was under consideration.

People of south Haryana have to travel a great distance by visiting Chandigarh for their complaints, he said.

"Therefore, in view of the problems of the people of south Haryana, the Commission has a plan to set up a bench or a permanent sitting after exploring possibilities," he said in an official release.

Justice Mittal said about 2,500 cases were lying pending with the commission.

These include about 800 new cases which would soon be disposed of, he said.

Mittal said the aim of the commission was to safeguard the human rights of poor and other persons, and to ensure that human rights were not violated.

People are being made aware about human rights and in future also the commission would organise seminars to spread awareness, he said.
