He would also be the head of swissnex India -- an initiative of Swiss government to facilitate exchanges between the two countries in the areas of science, education, art and innovation.
Hug will take up the post in November this year, Swiss government said in a release.
Swissnex India is a part of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Bangalore.
Hug began his career as attache for higher education, science and technology at the Swiss embassy in Canada in 2007.
Since 2013, he has been working in the International Relations Division of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation at the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, the release said.
