In the Union Territory of Chandigarh, which received light rain this evening, maximum temperature settled a degree above normal at 34.6 degrees Celsius, the MeT department said here.
Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place in the region with a high of 37 degrees, while Bhiwani also experienced sultry weather at 36.4 degrees Celsius, up one notch.
While Ludhiana registered a high of 34.4 degrees, Patiala and Amritsar recorded maximum temperatures of 34.9 and 35.8 degrees Celsius, up by two and one notch each.
The MeT department, in its forecast, said light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at many places in Haryana and at a few places in Punjab over the next two days.
Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur at isolated places in Haryana tomorrow, it added.
