I am a reclusive person: Sobhita Dhulipala

Actor Sobhita Dhulipala says she is keen to play the characters of the ordinary such as farmer's wife, tailor's daughter and teacher that exist for real.

Sobhita, who made her film debut in Anurag Kashyap's 'Raman Raghav 2.0' in 2016 and subsequently acted in 'Kaalakaandi' with Saif Ali Khan, adds she is naturally drawn to characters that are more layered.

Born in Tenali and raised in Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, the Femina Miss India Earth 2013 noted that Raman Raghav was not a usual character for a debutant, and her second film Kaalakaandi was an experimental movie.

Her Telugu debut movie 'Goodachari' in which she plays the role of a psychologist from Harward is set for release on August 3.

"I look forward to playing characters where I want to play the ordinary, to be honest,...farmer's wife, tailor's daughter, the teacher characters that exist for real emotions... I want to explore as an individual and as an artist", Sobhita told PTI in an interview.

She was also candid when asked who her favourite actor is -- she has none -- and whether she expects a big break in her career from her upcoming releases.

"I don't admire actors so much actually", said Sobhita who is fond of writers and musicians.

One of her favourites is Canadian singer-songwriter, poet and novelist Leonard Cohen whose work she finds amazing. "I get transported when I read books", she said.

"I am such a reclusive person that literally when I am done shooting, at some level I sort of disassociate myself and I get back to reading my books. I just want to do what makes my heart soar. I have been doing that", the 25-year-old said.

Sobhita writes poetry and has plans to publish her work eventually for which she says there is lot of time.

She has wrapped up the Jeethu Joseph film "The Body" with Emraan Hashmi and Rish Kapoor.

Sobhita made no secret of her angst about pay disparity between male and female actors where the former get better pay packets compared to the latter.

"It's very unfortunate. It exists largely in every industry. It's high time that something is done about it. There has been times when I was worked up, it's very unfortunate. It's truly sad, it's a sad situation", she said.

But she is happy with the way her career has panned out.

"It's been a very colourful journey in a way because I am fortunate that I was able to do those projects I always wanted to be part of; there has been no compromise on quality, kind of stories that I wanted to tell. I have been a little selective in the work that I have done. It's very gratifying".

She is now looking forward to 'Goodachari' doing well at the box office.

While every film obviously takes lot of effort to make, Sobhita said 'Goodachari' was done in a very tight budget.

Terming it a "passion project", she said every department contributed "so wonderfully".
