A top UAE-based diary producer has claimed to be the first company in the world to introduce ice creams and milk powder from camel milk to the mass market.
The products introduced by Al Ain Dairy are now officially available in select retail outlets throughout the UAE under the 'Camelait' brand.
"This is a monumental achievement not only in the history of Al Ain Dairy, but the UAE as a whole," said Al Ain Dairy CEO, Abdullah Saif Al Darmaki.
Handling the complex proteins of camel milk in the pasteurisation process to produce ice cream was a major challenge that was overcome during the innovation process, the company said in a statement.
The ice cream is available in six flavors - date, saffron, cardamom, chocolate, carmel and lite raspberry vanilla.
Another product from the company is camel milk powder, which is made by evaporating 100 per cent natural fresh camel milk to dryness.
"As the demand for naturally nutritious products continually rises in European and North American markets, we feel the presence for our Camelait products is necessary now more than ever," Al-Darmaki said.
"And with new studies showing promising medical benefits of camel milk, it is our mission to ensure these locally produced products are available to consumers around the world," he added.
Camelait products were introduced in the UAE with the inception of the Al Ain Dairy camel farm in 2004 and have been a staple on supermarket shelves since.
