The Internationalist Democratic Party (IDP), which has presence in three North Indian states, today merged with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
"The Aam Aadmi Party is a positive phenomenon in Indian politics of 67 years. Therefore, it is decided that IDP members will join AAP with immediate effect as volunteers to become part of committees at different levels and to intervene in the electoral process from lowest unit to the highest level under the banner and symbol of the Aam Aadmi Party," IDP National President I D Khajuria told reporters after joining the party here.
The IDP, formed in 1986, has its presence in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan and had even contested the assembly elections from four seats in Rajasthan.
After the electoral success in Delhi assembly elections, many organisations have expressed their support for the AAP.
When asked whether AAP will have any alliance with Hyderabad based Loksatta Party, which has a similar ideology, senior party leader Yogendra Yadav said, "Jaiprakash Narayan and Loksatta party has done a good work for the past years and AAP is taking forward the work they have done.
"However, we do not have any alliance with any political party at the national or state level," he said.
Yadav also said that several organisations working in different fields in Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Odisha have announced their support for the Aam Aadmi Party.
