The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has expressed its keen interest in developing Vijayawada as a smart city in Andhra Pradesh, the state government said today.
In a meeting with senior officials of IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu asked them to provide advisory services to the state government and suggestions on capacity building exercise.
Naidu highlighted the potential for tourism and sought advice on managing public places in cities and towns, a state government release said today.
IFC officials informed Naidu that IFC had undertaken the work of the Buddhist circuit for Bihar and offered to share the business model with the Andhra Pradesh government.
The IFC focuses on PPP (Public-Private-Partnership) infrastructure models on smart cities.
In this regard, Naidu sought their suggestions on redefining urban management - on traffic management in urban areas and sought their advice on converting 110 municipalities in the state to 'liveable' towns.
Explaining the advantage of a long sea coast and the availability of abundant water, Naidu asked IFC officials to prepare plans on creating water and aqua sports facilities.
The IFC has come forward to finance and bring in private investor for roof-top solar and waste-water management fields, it added.
