IGL launches pre-paid smart cards for CNG, cooking gas

Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the sole supplier of CNG and piped natural gas in the national capital region, today launched pre-paid smart cards to provide consumers a digital option for making payments.
Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said at the launch that the new cards are part of Digital India Campaign envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to move towards a less-cash society.
The government, he said, is making efforts to use technology to provide time saving and easily accessible customer service to consumers.
Referring to the challenge of environmental pollution, he said the answer to Delhi's pollution lies in migrating its power plants, industrial units besides domestic and transport usages to clean natural gas.

He said the government is firm on its commitment to provide clean CNG and PNG for transportation and cooking at customers' convenience to promote gas-based economy.
IGL Smart Card is a prepaid Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled card for fleet and retail CNG customers.

Fleet card provides fleet operators, government departments, schools, institutions as well as corporates an option to give their drivers pre-loaded cash cards for CNG purchase that can be tracked online.
The prepaid retail card is meant for individual owners of cars, autos and taxis who can get the card at any CNG station.
IGL Smart Cards are 'Tap and Go' NFC cards and there will be a receipt after every transaction using POS terminals, which would be operated in dispensing area, reducing transaction time and queues at the CNG stations.

The transactions through IGL Smart Card are PIN enabled and therefore would be completely secured. The owner will also receive SMS and email after every transaction as alerts.
