Former "Hollyoaks" star Gemma Merna says there is always a death in the show and that is why she left it.
The 32-year-old actress, who quit "Hollyoaks" in 2014 after playing Carmel Valentine for around eight years, said she got bored because of its tired storylines and wanted her character to go in a different direction, reported Digital Spy.
"I left because I didn't want fans to get bored of her. I didn't want them to think 'oh God, Carmel's doing that again... How many times has she done that storyline?
"It's a shame they didn't take the character in a different direction. In Hollyoaks there is always a death- that's why I felt like it was time to go," Merna said.
The model revealed that she felt Carmel was never given a happy ending she deserved.
"She got engaged to three people and they all died. I found that I kept repeating that. There was never any happy ever after for her. And I think she deserved one.
"I'm glad Carmel was put to bed. People assumed I was ditzy and a bit stupid and that I dress like her and wear tons of make-up. But now I've left people know me as Gemma. It's nice that people see that now," she added.
