As it heads into the crucial UN Climate Change Conference in Paris from November 30 to December 11, the country also said it will to work with all participants in a very "constructive" spirit.
"It is our hope that the agreement to be reached in Paris will be based on the fundamental principles that were agreed upon at the Rio conference -- that there are common but differentiated responsibilities.
They said that because there is no equal accountability, the action to be taken has to be based on the recognition of differentiation and national capabilities.
"Those who are responsible for less are required to do less and those responsible for more are required to do more. That is the broad framework in which we will approach Paris," the sources said.
Terming India's INDC "fair and ambitious" and one that takes into account the country's developmental challenges and goals, they said the country will continue to highlight the need to reflect on the principle of 'common but differentiated responsibilities (CBDR)'.
"Just as the carbon space occupied globally to this point is on account of actions which can be disaggregated, so must the steps taken in the future reflect those same differentiations," they said.
Noting that India, apart from speaking for itself at different sessions, has also combined in more than one coalition like the BASIC group, LMG and G77, sources said that the common thread throughout has been the adherence to CBDR, which is "central".
