Haryana Janhit Congress chief Kuldeep Bishnoi, seeking re-election from Hisar Lok Sabha seat, today hit out at opposition INLD, saying it was hobnobbing with Badals who had "always worked against the interests of Haryana".
"Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Singh Badal have always been opposing construction of the SYL canal, but INLD has always hobnobbed with them," Bishnoi told reporters here.
He said despite knowing the "anti-Haryana" stand of the Badals, the INLD leaders had been inviting them time and again for canvassing in Haryana.
While Sukhbir Singh Badal had already campaigned for the INLD's Lok Sabha candidates for the April 10 polls, Chief Minister Badal is scheduled to address three public meetings for the Om Prakash Chautala-led party candidates tomorrow.
"The Badals have always been working against the interests of Haryana," said Bishnoi.
Bishnoi is locked in a four-cornered contest in Hisar with Congress' Sampat Singh, INLD's greenhorn Dushyant Chautala and AAP's Y S Khyalia.
Terming the SYL canal as "lifeline" for Haryana, he said, "if NDA is voted to power, we shall put an end to this issue forever by bringing water to Haryana."
Interestingly, SAD led by Sukhbir Singh Badal is a key ally of BJP and an important constituent of the NDA. The HJC is contesting on two seats of Hisar and Sirsa in Haryana while the remaining eight seats are being fought by its ally BJP. INLD, whose attempts to woo BJP for a tie-up ahead of the polls failed, is contesting on all the 10 seats on its own.
"When the NDA government is formed at the Centre, there will be an end to the discrimination that Hisar has been facing over the past 17 years. Neither INLD nor Congress took interest in the development of Hisar," he said.
In reply to a question about MPLAD funds, he said, "Some of my opponents have been spreading rumours that I did not spend these funds for the projects of the constituency. They may first check up the utilisation of funds and then comment.
"I have used every single penny allotted to me for the welfare of the people. Moreover, I have also spend Rs 60 lakh from my pocket for installing CCTV cameras in Hisar and Hansi to check incidents of rising crime."
He claimed he had raised the demand to declare Hisar a "backward area" so that more industrial units could be set up here, but the Congress government did not pay heed.
"People have already experienced the rule of the Chautalas and Hoodas and now they want to give chance to Narendra Modi at the Centre and HJC-BJP in the state," he added.
