While Indian rules require the sizes to be mentioned in centimeters, many entities follow the global practice of putting 'large, medium or small' size labels on such products including undergarments, vests and socks.
Irani along with a delegation of hosiery manufacturers met Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on this issue.
"A committee has been set up to resolve this issue," Paswan told reporters after the meeting.
The delegation argued that the exemption is necessary as hosiery products are sold largely unpacked and following packaging norms would be difficult for the unorganised sector, a senior Consumer Affairs Ministry official said.
Irani also demanded the minister to exempt threads sold in coil to handloom weavers as well as raw materials used for industrial consumption from the 2011 rules.
To which, Paswan said that these two are already exempted.
