A large group of farmers along with Isha Foundation here are working out a policy, as per which they can fix prices for their produces, which hitherto was decided by middlemen.
Against the backdrop of farmers not getting remunerative prices for their produces, which allegedly led to suicides across the Country, representatives of farmers associations held discussions with the founder of Isha Foundation, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev recently, to find a permanent solution to their woes.
The discussion hovered around the farmers' problems, particularly small and medium farmers, who own below five acres land, of availability of water and quality of soil and farming practices to boost their income.
Later briefing reporters on the deliberations, Sadhguru said it was decided to urge both the Central and state governments to come out with a policy to allow farmers to decide the prices--one and half time of the cost of production.
Since the production cost varied from State to State, the policy could be state-specific, so that the local farmers get the right price, which cannot be compared to Southern and Northern parts, he said.
Once the policy is ready, it will be submitted to the Centre and the state governments for further action, Sadhguru said, adding the foundation has partnered with Tamil Nadu Agricultural University to negotiate on various aspects of farmers.
