Around 400 students had been given fake offer letter in the name of various companies, a spokesman of the university said.
Associate Dean of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), under Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, R K Hota, who was in-charge of placement, was arrested in connection with the fake campus placements on the basis of preliminary inquiry, said Commissioner of Police Y B Khurania.
The university was unable to show proper documents in connection with the placement process undertaken by the college, the commissioner said.
Hota, however, claimed that he was innocent and played no role in the issuing of fake job offer letters to the students and the consultancy agency engaged for the purpose was responsible for the fraud.
Students of the institute called off their agitation and hunger strike after the offer of a monthly stiped of Rs 20,000 to each of those affected in the fake appointment for a year, a spokesman of the university said.
The university's earlier offer was modified to ensure that the affected students, who had got fake job offer letters in the name of various companies, are paid the stipend amount for one year.
The university is charting out the course for aiding the duped students and steps have been initiated to bring the culprits to book, he said adding it would stand behind the students in this case.
The students had launched an agitation on Wednesday near the main gate of the college and the university had moved the police against the consultancy firm which had conducted the fake recruitment drives in ITER for different companies.
The consultancy firm had provided offer letters to several students on behalf of these companies but when the students reached the Gurgaon office of a company, it was found that the letters were fake, the spokesman said.
