Seeking to build a consensus on the government's stand in the climate change conference in Paris, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar today met CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, following up on his meetings with Ghulam Nabi Azad of Congress and Ram Gopal Yadav of Samajwadi Party.
The meetings are aimed at bringing opposition parties on board with the official stand at the Paris summit and apprise them about various steps being taken to mitigate climate change.
After the meeting, Yechury said India's position at the climate change summit was discused during the meeting.
"I have reiterated that the Rajya Sabha had adopted three red lines and no government should cross these red lines," he said.
Yechury said India must stick to Common But Differentiated Responsibilities (CBDR). "This is what western countries want to change but India must not succumb," he said.
During the discssions, he maintained that climate change can be tackled through green technologoes and they should be made available to developing countries like India without seeking IPR for the same.
The Rajya Sabha had accepted these red lines as the sense of the House and the government should not violate these, he said.
Yechury said that Javadekar assured that the government will not violate these red lines.
