Jawan killed in firing along LoC

An Army jawan was killed in an exchange of fire with a group of infiltrating militants along the Line of Control in Akhnoor sector of Jammu district today.
Terrorists opened fire on two jawans of Army patrolling party near Chakla forward post in Pallanwala sector of Akhnoor tehsil at around 9 am today, defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said in official release here.
"One Jawan, Naik Mongchon B of Naga Regiment received gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries," he said.
The area was immediately cordoned off and search operations were in progress when the last report came in, Lt Col Mehta said.

Earlier, police officials said alert troops of Naga regiment challenged and fired on the militants.
During the exchange of fire, the militants escaped back to the other side.
