Karnataka High Court today pulled up Tamil Nadu Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), which is prosecuting Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others in the disproportionate assets case against them, for colluding with the accused.
Justice N Narayanaswamy, while hearing a petition filed by some companies in the case, observed "DVAC is acting in favour of the accused. You have not even filed an objection. This shows that you are colluding with the accused. If this is the way, you cannot protect the law."
The petition filed by the companies, of which Jayalalithaa
and three accused were directors then, seeks a stay on the trial of the disproportionate case in a special court here.
On May 7 as well, Special Court Judge John Michael Cunha
in his order had observed that the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and others were suppressing material facts by misleading the court.
The judge observed that the Tamil Nadu DVAC was guilty of
complicity in the attempt to mislead the court.
He also had proposed action against the DVAC at the end of
the main trial.
The case has been posted to May 20 for the next hearing.
