Jayalalithaa spoke to Modi over the phone and "Thanked him for his support in ensuring the unanimous election" of Thambidurai as Deputy Speaker, a state government release here said.
She has also sent a letter to the Prime Minister in this regard, it added.
67-year-old Thambidurai, leader of AIADMK Parliamentary Party, was elected to the post for the second time, after a motion, moved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and seconded by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj supporting him, was carried by voice vote amid thumping of desks from all sides.
