"Coal is taken to other states from Jharkhand, but our own villages are shrouded in darkness because of shortage of electricity," Mahto said here.
Addressing the party convention at Dugda in Bokaro district, the former deputy chief minister suggested that the state government take up the matter of long pending land acquisition matter in the coal belt of Jharkhand to provide adequate compensation to the people, who had been displaced during setting up of public sectors.
Claiming that unemployment has increased manifold, Mahto said his party has been demanding special status for Jharkhand for the last one year.
About the party's another demand for more doctors in the state, he said, "There should be one doctor for 250 people but in Jharkhand we have one doctor for 34,000 people."
"There are many such examples where Jharkhand falls well short of development indicators, making it all the more necessary for the state to be accorded special status," he said.
