Jharkhand will spend an estimated Rs 70 crore for renovation and up-gradation of BIT, Sindri to meet the yardsticks and make it among the top ranking institutions in the country, while its alumni in the US has raised Rs 6.7 crore to pool in.
Anil Singh, Director of BIT Sindri Alumni Association of North America, has requested to sign an MoU in this regard when a three-member delegation from Jharkhand represented the state at the Annual Regional Parvasi Bharatiya Divas at Los Angeles, California on November 14 and 15, an official release said here today.
"The Alumni Association has raised $ one million (Rs 6.7 crore) to invest in the development and up-gradation of BIT, Sindri. They have requested to sign a MoU with the Government of Jharkhand in December, which is soon going to be finalised," it said.
A separate official release said Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba today chaired a meeting to discuss the yard sticks that would put the institution among the top rankings in the country.
He said Rs 70 crore would be spent on BIT, Sindri, in Dhanbad for its renovation and up-gradation.
Rs 51 crore of the total amount would be spent on setting up three new hostels, guest house, dispensary, training and placement centre, community centre, sewerage treatment plant and construction of staff quarters and a DPR would be prepared in this connection.
The top government official also directed to initiate the process of appointment of 180 teachers through JPSC to make the teacher-student ratio 1:15 at the institution, while the director of the institution would be empowered to take quick decisions.
The NTPC would also help in setting up a solar power plant in the campus through its CSR.
