The Jharkhand State Khadi and Gram Udyog Board have been focusing on 'quality and branding' aspects with an eye to tap export market for its products in the next financial year.
"Our emphasis is to produce quality product and also turning focus on its branding, packaging, labelling etc to explore possibilities in markets abroad," Board Chairman Jainandu said.
Jainandu told a press conference "we have taken initiative to become hi-tech in the readymade garment sector and are in negotiation with an US agency to explore possibilities in export market."
Elaborating further about hi-tech, the Chairman said the Board was planning to produce one new design quality product every day and decided to appoint a designer soon.
"We are in talks with various designing institutions including NIFT," he said.
"The response to our products including ready garments was very good in the domestic market," he said adding that a tie-up with NIFT within a month was a possibility as the Board was endeavouring to improve further.
Jainandu said Jharkhand government on Friday allotted a space of 6500 sq ft in Ranchi, where the Board will set up a modern office, a Khadi emporium, 3500 sq ft godown with an investment of Rs five crore.
The emporium will be set up over a space of 4000 sq ft in the proposed four-story building, he said predicting that it would be ready by October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatama Gandhi.
Three Khadi parks, aimed at providing services from raw-material to finishing product, skilled training of villagers, packing, designing in Amda, Rajnagar (Seraikelal-Kharswan), and Deoghar will be ready for inauguration by the end of this fiscal while a similar park in Dumka will be completed in a year time, he said.
Referring to the performance of the Board in 2014-15, Jainandu said a turnover of Rs.300 crore was registered and the figure was expected to improve in the current fiscal.
The company further said that it will also make the
necessary application for registration of Khadi mark.
"We would like to reiterate that there was no intent on our part to violate the law in any manner. We acknowledge the national importance attached to Khadi mark and the Khadi products. As a socially responsible corporate citizen, we would like to be associated with KVIC in any of the initiatives to support Khadi artisans and promotion of Khadi products," it said.
It asked the KVIC to kindly withdraw the notice and provide it neccessary guidelines in obtaining registration of Khadi mark for its products at the earliest and suitable opportunity in getting associated with KVIC as part of its CSR initiatives.
