The ambitious 'Sports University of Jharkhand' is all set to kick-start its academic activities from 2018-19 session.
The vice-president of the Governing Council of Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society (GCJSSPS), Gopal Singh announced today that all official formalities for setting up of a Sports University of Jharkhand, including passing the bill in Assembly would be completed in 2017 and admissions would be taken from 2018 session.
Gopal Singh, who arrived here from Ranchi for promotion of Mission Olympic 2024 of Jharkhand in Dhanbad, said that Jharkhand Sports University would be of international standard and world famous sports universities of Europe, USA and Australia have been lined up for collaboration. "Australia's Queensland University has already agreed," he said.
The GCJSSPS vice-president while rolling out the calendar of sports talent hunt in all 24 districts of Jharkhand for Jharkhand Sports Academy said, it is an ambitious project of chief minister Raghubar Das and union minister of coal Piyush Goel which would establish Jharkhand on international sports map in the near future.
Jharkhand Sports Academy has been set up at Ghatwar Sports Complex Ranchi in a Joint venture with Jharkhand government and Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).
Gopal Singh, who is the chairman-cum-managing director of CCL Ranchi and Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Dhanbad said, talent hunt for second batch would start in state on January 22 and in first phase of trial 100 boys and girls(eight and a half years to 10-years-old) would be selected from each of the 24 districts.
Final trial would be organized at Ranchi in which 100 talents, 70 boys and 30 girls would be filtered out for the Academy.
Singh lamented that only 306 boys and girls turned in Dhanbad during the talent hunt trial for first batch that was conducted in July last.
He said Jharkhand has rich haul of sports talent and the academy is trying to spruce them up at international level.
