Jharkhand serious to revive irrigation projects

"During my visit to Palamau district I had reviewed several irrigation projects, including NKIP, Kutku and Batane, and the state government is serious to pursue these projects," Chief Minister Arjun Munda told a legislators delegation from Bihar headed by Aurangabad MP A K Singh.

Stating that Kutku dam project in Palamau would not only help irrigation in parts of that district but also could produce 25 MW electricity, and cater drinking water to the people of the district headquarters town of Medininagar.

Stating that the state was in correspondence with the Centre over these pending projects, Munda suggested that MPs from both Bihar and Jharkhand should take up the matter with the union government and pursue for the benefit of the two states.

Singh told Munda that if the NKIP revived and completed, irrigation could be available to a total of 1.24 lakh hectare land spread over both the states, adding Rs 2000 crore worth kharif and Rabi crops could be produced, which would, in turn, help in the implementation of the National Food Security Act.
