JIPMER to collaborate with national and international

The Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research here has drawn up plans to collaborate with various national and international research institutions to carry out basic research projects in health sciences in Indian context.
JIPMER director S.C.Parija said in a release today that the intention was to develop cost effective diagnostic tests and treatment protocols which are appropriate for Indian population.
He said a student of the Department of Clinical Immunology in JIPMER, Christina Mary Mariaselvam had obtained dual Ph.D from JIPMER and the Universite Sorbonne in Paris (France) and she is the first Indian to achieve this distinction.
Her area of research was 'Immunogenetics Rheumatoid Arthritis' in the South Indian Tamil population, genetic polymorphism of genes involved in immuno inflammatory response in relation to phenotype markers.
The student had worked under the supervision of Dr Vir Singh Negi, a reputed clinical Immunologist and Head of Department of Clinical Immunology in JIPMER and also under Dr Dominique Charron, the world authority on HLA and Transplant and Professor Jean Dausset of the Department of Immunology and Immunogenetics in St Louis Hospital in Paris, he said.
She received the Ph.D. Degree in Jipmer in 2015 and in the University of Sorbonne Paris in 2016.
Dr Parija said that 'it was a unique opportunity for the research student to obtain joint Ph.D.Degree from both the institutions under a common research framework agreement.
