JK govt appeals anganwadi workers to call off strike

Jammu and Kashmir government today appealed to Anganwadi workers to call off their strike, which has been going on for 68 days, assuring that their genuine demands would be addressed at the earliest.

Minister of State for Social Welfare Asiea Naqash told the members of Anganwadi workers and helpers union, who met her here, that is the government's endeavour to work for the betterment of employees, besides taking various measures to fulfil their genuine demands.

President of the union Suman Suri expressed satisfaction with the assurance of the minister, but said that the strike would continue till the government addresses their issues.

"During the meeting, the deputation apprised the minister about several issues being faced by them while rendering their duties on ground and appealed for early redressal of their demands," a spokesperson said.

While assuring the deputation that their genuine demands would be looked into, Naqash appealed them to resume their work.

A joint delegation of the union, representing workers and helpers both in Kashmir and Jammu regions, met the minister and we are satisfied with her assurance. We are hopeful that given her positive response, our genuine demands would be met shortly," Suri told PTI.

However, Suri, who led the delegation, said, "We will continue with the strike, but restrict our protest to sit-in demonstrations till the government address our issues."
