Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) today held a protest here against Narendra Modi-led NDA government for not including any city from the state in the Smart City project.
Led by party chairman Harsh Dev Singh, a large number of party activists gathered in Jammu and raised slogans against the Central government.
"The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been cheated as not a single smart city was sanctioned for the state of Jammu and Kashmir, exposing the hollow promises made by the BJP before coming to power," Singh said.
He said that the BJP government both at the centre and in the state has forsaken the people of Jammu region and was busy in appeasement policy for the Kashmir.
"The BJP has sacrificed the aspirations of the people of Jammu on the altar of power as it has completely given up all their powers to the PDP and is playing as a second fiddle in the coalition," he said.
Singh said that the people of Jammu have been subjected to large scale discrimination, "be it the issue of AIIMS, be it the issue of sanctioning of smart cities, Jammu is facing a large scale discrimination in the hands of this BJP-PDP government."
JKNPP activists also had a scuffle with the police as the latter tried to stop them from burning the effigy of the Prime Minister.
"The police misbehaved and used forced against our activists including the female activists," Singh alleged.
However, police said that it maintained maximum restrain while trying to maintain law and order in the city.
