Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today paid tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 146th birth anniversary here.
While paying his tribute to Gandhi, JKPCC Chief G A Mir said that Gandhi played a major role in getting freedom for the country.
Mir said that Gandhi's philosophy of non-violence, peace and brotherhood is becoming more relevant with every passing day as the entire world looks towards Mahatma Gandhi for guidance.
"The United nations had declared this day as International Non-Violence Day, recognising the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi for the world peace and communal harmony, as a way of peaceful co-existence", Mir said.
JKPCC Chief cautioned the people against the communal and divisive forces who are bent upon to divide the society for their vested interest which goes against basic principle and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi who preached patience and religious tolerance which is fundamental to the security and integrity of the nation.
Mir also paid tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri and recalled his contributions and said that Shastri was symbol of honesty and simplicity.
"He was the man of high values and principles. His slogan of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kissan' reflected his statesmanship and the respect enjoyed by him in the hearts of countrymen", he said.
President of All India Youth Congress, Amarinder Singh Raja Brar, also led 'Gandhi sandesh yatra' and asked the youth Congress activists to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy in order to defeat the forces of hatred who are bent upon to divide the society.
