Journalist booked for extortion

A journalist was booked today on charges of extorting money from a doctor working in a district government hospital here, police said.
In a complaint to police, Anil Kumar Singh, a doctor at MMG Hospital, alleged journalist Praveen Arora had demanded Rs 2.5 lakh as extortion money from him.
The doctor alleged Arora had threatened him that in case of non-payment, he would telecast a video of him taking money from patients, police said.
Based on the doctor's complaint, Arora, a journalist with a TV news channel and a resident of Ghaziabad, was bookd under section 384 (Extortion) of the IPC, they said.
Earlier in the day, Singh approached SSP Dharmendra Singh who directed registration of a case against the journalist.
The doctor also alleged in his complaint that Arora was troubling him for the past six months.
Investigations were on, police said adding the journalist had not been arrested yet.
