Mohammad Kaif, the alleged sharpshooter of controversial RJD leader Mohammad Shahabuddin, surrendered in a district court here today after evading arrest in the case of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan's murder.
Kaif alias Bunty gave himself up before Chief Judicial Magistrate Arvind Kumar Singh and was sent to jail, Superintendent of Police Saurav Kumar Sah said.
Though policemen were present in the court premises, the accused dodged them and appeared in the CJM court which sent him to nine days judicial custody.
Kaif was evading the police dragnet in the murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan in May last. He was a suspect along with Mohammad Javed in the case.
However, he was seen in a photograph with Shahabuddin following the latter's release from Bhagalpur jail on September 10.
The Siwan police had on Friday last attached his property at Dakshin tola for not surrendering.
The CJM court had granted property attachment order on the police's request in the case of 'rangdari' (extortion) threat to a private engineering college.
A case of extortion was registered against Kaif and three others with Town police station last month.
Except for Kaif, the other three had surrendered on last Thursday.
Kaif's photograph with RJD supremo Lalu Prasad's son and state Health minister Tej Pratap Yadav last week had triggered a controversy.
