Boxer Mary Kom, eminent economist Kaushik Basu, haematologist Dr Mammen Chandy and banker Chandrasekhar Ghosh will be conferred the honorary D Lit at the 63rd Annual Convocation of Jadavpur University, Pro-Vice Chancellor Pradip Ghosh said on Wednesday.
He said cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has expressed his inability to receive the honour on ethical grounds.
Molecular biologist Dipankar Chatterji will also be given the honorary D Sc at the Convocation to be held in the university campus on December 24, Ghosh said at a press meet.
He said the university had also approached Sachin Tendulkar for conferring him the honorary D Lit.
"But he mailed us back expressing his inability to receive the honour on ethical grounds," Ghosh said.
