Jung urges people to donate their organs

Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today urged the people to donate their organs for saving the lives of other human being in the society who are in dire need.
"We must keep in mind that society is a larger family and our dearest is alive, if the recipient is alive. One should feel proud to donate the organs in the manner as if one is celebrating festival in festive spirit in the same manner one celebrates Diwali, Holi, Eid and Christmas. Having such feelings of donating organs will be a great favour to humanity," he said in his address on the Jashn-e-Azadi celebration in the city today.
Jung also administered pledge to the officers, doctors, staff members and general people to donate their organs for saving the lives of human beings in a function organized by Health department for organ donation pledge, blood donation, health check-up and eye check-up camps today.
Jung also appreciated efforts and contribution of Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences in the field of organ transplant.
A special function was also organized at Raj Niwas where 50 per cent staff of Raj Niwas including senior officers and employees of various categories took a pledge to donate their organs.
The Lt Governor had already pledged to donate his organs in ILBS onm May 23. His wife has also taken a pledge to donate her organs.
Director (ILBS) Dr S K Sarin said that the campaign could be made a success by taking help of on-line registration for organ donation started by ILBS. He emphasized that people must come forward to donate their organs in a big way.
After taking pledge for organ donation, the senior officers of Government of Delhi, a number of doctors and staff in the Secretariat donated blood.
As part of the organ donation pledge, a film was screened on the organ donation along with puppet show and nukkad natak. Various myths about the organ donation were dissipated and many volunteers pledged to donate their organs, eye and tissue as an act of love and generosity.
The eye check-up activities were done by the RP Centre of AIIMS through their expert Eye specialists.
