Large number of books and other personal belongings of the late President are being taken back to his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.
This follows Urban Development Ministry giving notice to Kalam's personal staff to vacate the house at 10 Rajaji Marg by October 31. The Ministry had sent the notice around two months back.
His family members have requested the Centre to build a memorial or knowledge centre in his memory either at the Rajaji Marg residence or somewhere else in the capital.
Kalam's grand nephew Sheikh Salim said the government has conveyed to the family that a memorial for Kalam will be built in Rameswaram, his home town where he was laid to rest on July 30.
"We had requested the Centre to convert his 10 Rajaji Marg residence into a memorial or knowledge centre. We will not have any issue if it is set up somewhere else also," Sheikh Salim told PTI.
He said they met the Home Minister and the President, requesting them to set up a memorial for Kalam.
He was India's 11th President and had served the high office from 2002 to 2007.
