Karnataka improves chances of lifting Fed Cup

Karnataka continued to lead the points table at the end of the events on the third day of the 19th Federation Cup Athletics Championships at Mangala Stadium here today.
Karnataka scored 84.5 points, followed by Indian Army (68.5) and Kerala (60) after the final results of eight events were out today.
J Preeth of Tamil Nadu came first in men's pole vault with an effort of 4.9m, while P Balakrishnan of Karnataka came second (4.8m), followed by Krishna Prasath V of Tata Motors (4.8m).
In the men's high jump, S Harshith and Supreeth Raj of Karnataka won the gold and silver by scaling a height of 2.13m and 2.09m respectively, followed by Srineesh C of Army (2.09m).
Neeraj Kumar of Indian Navy clinched the gold in men's hammer throw clearing a distance of 64.53m. Tamil Nadu's N Shankar came second (56.83m) and Abhishek Yadav of Uttarakhand claimed the third place with a distance of 49.81m.
In the 3000m men'steeplechase, Jaiveer Singh and his Army colleague Naveen Kumar claimed the first and second positions with a time of 8:48.56 and 8:49.38 respectively. Sachin Bajirao Patil from Maharashtra finished third in the event (8:58.13).
Pariti Lamba of Haryana came first in 3000m women's steeplechase in 10:48.86 minutes. Nandini Gupta of Uttar Pradesh (10:58.76) and S Padmavathy of Tamil Nadu (11:30.50) claimed the second and third spots.
In the women's hammer throw, Ritu Dhiman from Uttar Pradesh came first clearing 58.30m, followed by Sarabjeet Kaur of Punjab (55.10m) and Sarita Singh of Odisha (54.97).
The gold in women's triple jump went to Sheena N V of Kerala who cleared a distance of 12.92m. The silver and bronze in the category went to Joyline M Lobo of Karnataka (12.62m) and Niharika Vashisht of Punjab (12.45m).
In the morning session, Gujarat's Maniram Patel claimed gold in the men's 20 km walk , clocking a time of 1:29:51 in the finals.Kuldeep of Tata Motors (1:31:04) and Ankit Kumar Kumar of Indian Navy came second and third respectively.
